“You may not realize it when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you.”- Walt Disney

Who am I?

I am Tegan Scroggs, a female in her late 30s living on the east coast. My husband and I have been married for almost 16 years and have three boys. I am a secondary special education teacher in a great community.

I attended classes at our local community college when I graduated from high school. I entered the workforce when I realized I wasn’t sure what I wanted to be. I’ve held various retail jobs and worked for the private sector of aviation and the airlines before moving to northern Virginia, where I worked briefly for a marine spares company before working at LifeTime Fitness child care center. After a decade, I left to work in an infant room at a childcare center with a preschool. After a year, I left, returning to school full-time while subbing at my kids’ school. I graduated from Old Dominion University in 2018 with a BS and Mary Baldwin University in 2020 with an MS. I completed my teaching license certification in 2021. I have forged paths that weren’t easy to navigate, so it would fit that I would be diagnosed with a rare disease with its unmarked path.

I am creating this space for myself to document the journey of navigating the incurable.  I hope that sharing my journey and knowledge will give hope to others with the disease, educate the public about such a rare disease, and become a way to advocate for more research and better FDA policies allowing for expanded trials and more approved treatments for all disease category types.
